When China outlawed a popular spiritual practice in 1999, nationwide mass arrests ensued—as millions of its citizens became enemies of the state overnight.

Led by one such victim—a brave group of artists now living outside of China, use art as a tool for change. Launching an art exhibition illustrating the unheard personal experiences of the lives inflicted by tragedy and the transformative power of the faith that brought them all together.

Following the unique journeys of these collective artists, as their exhibition goes on to tour internationally, inspiring hope for humanity.

The Art of Zhen Shan Ren

Inspiringly spiritual

The Art of Zhen, Shan, Ren (Truth, Compassion, Tolerance) is a moving and intimate journey into the spiritual life of people facing a human rights tragedy. Created with a respect for the highest artistic techniques, these oil paintings and Chinese watercolours give  unique insight into the spiritual discipline Falun Gong, also called Falun Dafa and events unfolding in China today.

The Artists

Painting Truth To Power

Two celebrated artists, renowned in their homeland for reaching the pinnacle of their discipline. Their stories tell how artistic pursuit can open a door to hope in the face of unyielding repression.

Before he encountered Falun Dafa, Zhang had been “a complete atheist for decades.” However, Falun Dafa expanded his horizon, and he came to realize that the mysteries of the universe, of life itself, and of the material substance lie far beyond human knowledge. He began to believe firmly in the existence of deities. Even when he was incarcerated and tortured, suffering through the nightmare of brainwashing and reeducation in labor camps, Zhang did not waver in his faith.
Chen Xiaoping works closely with Zhang Kunlun, bringing his original ideas to completion. The young artist used to specialize in watercolor and ceramics. After moving to Canada, she intended to devote herself to artistic undertakings. However, as news about the persecution against Falun Gong in China poured in, she was often in tears and could not work with a calm mind.
